CCAP’s plan calls for a mixed use of business, residential, and recreational activities within and around the existing historic structures. Thirteen buildings with over 500,000 square feet of interior space are slated for rehabilitation as offices, loft apartments, condominiums, and restaurants. Also in the works are plans for a restaurant and a museum commemorating the “Wreck of the Old ‘97" which took place on the site. The City of Danville’s bike and pedestrian trail system will be extended along the riverfront of the property. The world’s longest privately owned covered bridge, built by Dan River Mills to connect operations on both sides of the river, will be used as a direct link to Danville’s downtown area. The first phase of construction will be the rehabilitation of the Historic Dan Valley Flour Mill building which is being retrofitted by CCAP to house two restaurants, banqueting facilities, and office space. This once active industrial center is soon to see a rebirth as a unique and vibrant place to live, work, and enjoy Danville’s history and scenery.
