Experience & Qualifications

Following graduation from Virginia Tech in 1984, Michael Hedgepeth worked in a private architectural practice from internship to project management to senior level associate status. His experience includes the range of activities typical to private architectural practices including marketing, contract negotiation, office management, all phases of design and production, and construction administration. Building types for which Michael has been involved include office, retail, residential, medical offices, hospital renovations, libraries, fire stations, industrial, and hotels. While in New York, working with Terzis & Associates, Architects, Michael led a design team developing a two-story medical office building renovation which subsequently won a special award from the local Chamber of Commerce because its appearance helped spark a business renaissance in the Queens area. Most recently, his career has been in service to Virginia Tech in the Office of the University Architect where he has been the Campus Planning Architect. His experience includes primary roles in activities associated with procurement of professional services, contract negotiations, pre-planning and programming, design consultations to professional service providers, capital budgeting and planning, master planning, design reviews, design presentations, feasibility and concept studies, and design conceptualization. Michael has recently joined CCAP and is focusing on establishing a Blacksburg based branch office for the firm. The new office will better serve our growing client base in southwest Virginia, and the university level, institutional and foundation design work where he has unique experience and expertise.
